A crown-sometimes called a “cap”-is a tooth-like covering placed over a carefully prepared existing tooth. Used to strengthen, restore or improve the appearance of your natural tooth. A crown is placed on an individual tooth much like a thimble over your finger. In addition to being used to strengthen a tooth to accommodate the attachment of a fixed bridge, crowns serve many functions. One of the most common indications is to support the tooth when there is no longer sufficient tooth structure left to place a filling. Crowns may also be used to protect the structure of a tooth that is fractured or broken.

Single crowns are done to reinforce the weakened tooth structure / root canal treated tooth.

Benefits of Crown and Bridge Treatment.

Crown and bridge treatment reverses the negative impact of missing teeth in a variety of ways:

  • Restores and maintains the natural bite.
  • Prevents unnatural stress on other teeth.
  • Keeps opposing teeth in their proper place.
  • Prevents shifting and tilting of adjacent teeth.
  • Discourages further dental decay and periodontal disease.
  • Enhances your smile, speech and chewing function.

Usage of ceramic in making dental crowns is a break through in dentistry. Dental Porcelain is a kind of ceramic and is used in fabricating dental crown and bridges. Main advantage is, its white colour which makes it similar to natural tooth.

There are two types of ceramic crowns namely Porcelain Fused to Metal crowns and All Ceramic crowns

Porcelain fused to metal crowns or Metal Ceramic Crowns

Porcelain fused metal crowns in common terminology called as metal ceramic crowns have a metal shell/core on which, is fused a veneer of porcelain. They were considered as gold standard for repair of damaged teeth and they have ruled dentistry for several decades.

Two best qualities of a PFM crown are its strength due to metallic core and esthetics due to layered porcelain. These types of crowns are suitable in all most all dental restorative situations like tooth supported crowns & bridges, implant crowns & bridges, Implant Supported Full mouth Restorations etc.

Traditionally the metallic core is casted manually in various procedural steps. With the advancement in digital technology, these cores are now manufactured using CAD-CAM technology.

An Additive manufacturing metal fabrication technology called Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) is used in manufacturing metal cores/copings. The copings that are generated from DMLS has very precise fit, also uniform thickness and reduced weight. The copings are designed using CAD-CAM Technology and the data is directly transferred to the milling machine. Porcelain veneering is done on the copings following the milling procedure.

We, in our clinic have an experienced team of specialised dentists who can offer you best Fitted PFM crowns along with esthetics. We have an In-House dental laboratory and have all the digital based advanced equipments.

ALL CERAMIC CROWNS(e-max crowns)

In this type of ceramic crowns, the entire thickness of the crown is made out of porcelain. These type of crowns are also mentioned as Metal free crowns and are most bio-compatible type of crowns.

Different types of materials are in usage for this metal free crowns such as zirconia, e-max (lithium- disilicate) etc. The defining feature of this metal free crowns is that they offer translucency and makes them attractive to look and also blends in well with rest of your natural teeth.

Added advantage is majority of these type of crowns are made using digital technology (CAD-CAM). This 3D designing and milling offers you a precise fit and also uniform thickness

What are e-max Crowns & where are they used?

e-max crowns are a type of metal free crowns. Material used is called as lithium disilicate ceramic, a material that has been harvested for its translucent color and durability. This nature allows the light to pass through and also it can reflect your internal tooth colour which gives the crown a very natural look and because of this, makes them an absolute choice for your anterior restorations like laminates, veneers, Full contour crowns etc.

These e-max crowns can be pressed or milled from commercially available blanks. These are considered to be most aesthetic crowns till date. These are fitted to the prepared tooth using special bonding techniques that require skill and precision.

We from our restorative team of doctors and skilled technicians at our In-house Lab promise to offer you best e-max crowns.
